Sponsoring a child in the Slums of Hanoi Program provides the opportunity of a lifetime for an impoverished child. Most of these children would not be in school at all if it were not for a sponsor like you! School sponsorship covers all tuition, books, school supplies, uniforms, and school lunch.
Some of the children have had the opportunity to return to their home provinces, away from the heroin and destitution of the slums of Hanoi. We sponsor these children in a number of different provinces and enable them to grow up in a more healthy environment. We believe that education is the primary means for children to escape the cycle of poverty which grips their families. For less than a dollar a day, you can provide a child with the opportunity of a lifetime!

N. is a wonderful 11-year-old boy whose mother is in prison for bringing heroin to her boyfriend in jail and father is in prison for dealing heroin. He lives with an uncle in the countryside, where he is developing into a wonderful person. He has a great sense of humor and does well in school. He is the only one of 4 siblings to remain in school – we are so proud of him! Is he the child for you to sponsor?

L.’s mother left the family in 2008. His father, who is affected by Agent Orange, loves him very much and sincerely wants L. to be educated so that he does not live in poverty as an adult. Also in the small home are L.’s elderly grandfather and an aunt with severe mental illness. L. is 10 years old and desperately needs a sponsor.

Being shy and in a difficult home situation, T. needs a sponsor who is committed to making a long-term difference in her life. Her father passed away when she was one year old and her extended family rejects her. Her mother works hard to support her. T. is in 1st grade.

Q.’s father left the family when he was very young. His mother peddles to tourists in Hanoi and cannot afford the school fees for the children. Q. is 12 years old and gets excellent grades. He would not be in school and would grow up illiterate without a sponsor.

C. was born very prematurely and while she communicates well, she has a hard time walking. We paid for her neonatal care in the hospital, after which she lived with her parents, who are beggars in Hanoi. They did not care about her and sent her to live with her impoverished grandmother in the countryside. She is very committed to C. and has found a pre-school which will work with her to develop physically (grandmother carries her all the time). She is malnourished and very small for her age (extremities are like bird-legs).
